about
While having an email conversation with someone about the poem The Conquered Banner, and the mention of furling the flag, the person mistyped (or was autocorrected)"FURL" and put "FUEL." That's pretty much all I needed and looked over the poem again and rewrote a few lines. I figured fueling it would be much better than furling it. I wrote the poem/song in about a minute and a half, then spent a few hours a couple of days later recording it with my friends.
lyrics
Fuel that banner
With gasoline
Light it up
Watch it gleam
It never did us
Any good
Used by traitors
And those with hoods
You say heritage
I say hate
Fuel it now
It’s not too late
Show the state
And show the world
Fuck this talk
Of respectful furl
Take it down
And start tomorrow
To put away
The pain and sorrow
You say heritage
I say hate
Fuel it now
It’s not too late
You say heritage
I say hate
Fuel it now
It’s not too late
Fuel that banner
With kerosene
Strike a match
And live to dream
